The Kitchen Design Decision I Made and What Helped Me Get There

Last week I left you all in suspense about which kitchen countertop option I ended up selecting, and, what helped me make the decision…*Drumroll Please*!

I went with White Sands! The white quartz option speckled with gray flecks seen in my hand below.

Truth be told, I had really fallen in love with the original Moonstone color, a warm toned light gray with slight streaks of white. However, upon needing to select a new finish, I decided on White Sands; here are the three reasons why:

1) How it contrasts with the dark wood floor across the entire space. After seeing how dark and gray toned the floors in our house ended up being, I was hesitant to go with any of the gray countertop options because I felt they would make the kitchen feel darker rather than brighten things up, and I really want a light-filled kitchen.

2) An all white kitchen is classic. While I was leaning towards White Sands as the final selection, I wasn’t quite sure I wanted an all white kitchen. But upon researching it and finding some really lovely inspiration, like the projects below, I found them to be elegant, inviting, and timeless.

Design Note: wood and brass accents like hardware, fixtures, and decor seen below, are a great way to warm up an all white or cool toned kitchen like ours.

3) A white countertop allows me flexibility if I decide to one day paint the kitchen cabinets a different color. I’m really moved by deep earth tones of green and blue as seen in the inspiration images below.

At the end of the day, I am really happy with the final selection, and am looking forward to showing you how it turns out as well as how our kitchen transforms over time!
