Our Home For The Holidays 2021

I have to admit that while I love designing and decorating interiors, I am not a “seasonal decorator”, so for me, creating a festive/cozy home for the holidays looked a little different. Here are the layers I added around our house to make it feel more warm and welcoming…

A beautiful faux pre-lit Christmas Tree (similar to this one). We were quite late in purchasing it, but I’m glad we did. Growing up, my parents would get a tree every year, and we would decorate it as a family. It was something my little sister and I looked forward to almost as much as seeing all the presents magically show up underneath it. My amma especially loved collecting ornaments, either from places we would visit, or from family and friends who would send them to us. As a result there’s a full box of ornaments that Casey and I borrowed to use on our own tree this year. We enjoyed listening to Christmas songs, sharing stories, and dressing the tree together; a tradition we now get to carry on in our family ☺️

A welcome mat. We honestly didn’t purchase this door mat until two weeks ago, ha! Not that I planned it this way, but it felt really fitting that we mark the occasion of having our first week-long guests enter our home with a special message 😉 That, and, with the winter rain in Richmond, we needed something that would stop us and others from tracking water and mud into the house.

Candles + Florals. I have always loved candles and candlesticks, in all their various forms, materials, and sizes. They are decorative and bring in a warmth, glow, (and sometimes a heavenly scent) that I love all year round - but especially during the holidays. Our dining tablescape features two brass candlesticks, like these (except vintage), with olive toned tapers. The newest addition to my collection is this sculptural ceramic piece, pictured above.

When it comes to florals, I have been getting really into dried flowers, and enjoy creating my own arrangements. I recently purchased a beautiful vase I had been eyeing and am so pleased with how the final piece turned out (pictured below). You might recognize it from my recent blog post about our den 😉#MakingMoves

Bath Essentials. While this wasn’t particularly done for the holidays, I added a few comforts to our guest bathroom, making it more functional and cute ☺️ I shared a couple of these items along with others on a recent round-up. The shower curtain softens up the space with a light texture and color, while the woven rattan wastebasket brings in a much needed natural element. Shoutout to Casey for doing all the work of replacing our regular toilet seat & cover with the life changing Toto Washlet that we both love so much.

That wraps up 2021 my friends. It has honestly been a pleasure sharing the ups and downs of my journey in designing our home with all of you. Thank you for celebrating design wins both small and large, and for your constant support and encouragement. I appreciate all of you and hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
